Canelo On Retiring, Eubank Jr. On Why He Wants GGG

Canelo On Retiring, Eubank Jr. On Why He Wants GGG

Canelo Alvarez has no plans on walking away from the sport anytime soon.

The Mexican is a four-division champion with nothing much left to prove in the sport. And at the age of 33, Canelo could be forgiven for having one eye on retirement. And yet, that is far from the case.

Alvarez’s recent three-fight deal with the PBC includes a super clash with Jermell Charlo on September 30th, 2023. Although Alvarez is the heavy favorite, it is still a clash between two undisputed champions.

And thereafter, there are possibilities of a fight with David Benavidez if both sides can agree, which will be simpler now that Alvarez is with PBC. With that being said, Canelo was as hungry as ever.

Canelo On Retirement

“I still feel young, fresh, and I never think about the end of my career. I just train and fight every year and we’ll see. We’ll see in the future, but [I’m] still young. I feel great, I feel strong, and I feel [I’m at] my best,” Alvarez

Nevertheless, Canelo must back up those words in the ring. His last few fights have suggested that he may be on the decline. A comprehensive loss to Dmitry Bivol was accompanied by far-form-impressive wins over GGG and John Ryder. But the thing Canelo has shown is a tendency to prove his critics wrong. And there is no getting away from that.

Eubank On GGG

Meanwhile, Chris Eubank Jr. has opened up on his reasons for wanting to fight Gennady GolovkinEubank Jr. called out several big names following his tenth-round stoppage of Liam Smith.

Aside from GGG, Canelo Alvarez and Connor Benn were also mentioned. And at the age of 33, Eubank is attempting to maximize his career earnings as a prize fighter.

This is understandable since a world title shot is unlikely to occur, leaving Eubank with the only option of securing the big fights before calling time on his career. And given that Golovkin is also at the tail-end of his career, Eubank felt that the fight also made sense for the 41-year-old.

“Why not? Who else is going to give him a bigger money fight aside from Canelo, which no one is going to pay to watch him fight again. I’m the only name that the people want to see him fight. I’m never gonna not want that fight. Golovkin is a great name, a great fight to have here in Britain. he seems to only be interested in the big money fights now. I’m that,” Eubank
