Eddie Hearn has revealed that a fight between Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr. could take place in December.
The fight has been in the offing for sometime, but ultimately it got called off after Benn tested positive following two failed VADA tests which detected Clomiphene.
As a result, the British Boxing Board of Control refused to sanction the fight. Thereafter, Conor was suspended by UKDAD as an investigation continued to see if the boxer could prove his innocence.
Subsequently, the suspension was removed. However, UKAD and the British Boxing Board of Control appealed the decision, as Conor must go through another hearing.
Although the outcome of the decision has not been finalized, Hearn has talked up a Benn-Eubank fight happening given that Benn can technically box due to the suspension being removed.
Hearn On Benn-Eubank
“We’re having conversations, decent communications with the board about Conor boxing on September 30. They haven’t rejected and those conversations are ongoing. He has the option because he’s licensed in America and he’s not suspended anywhere.
“The board are happy for him to fight in Orlando, they’re not going to object to it or say that he can’t fight because they can’t, he’s not suspended. He’s been cleared of his suspension so that’s an option as well and ideally we would like him to fight before he goes into that huge fight which will be in December,” Hearn
Implication Of Benn’s Case
Nevertheless, there are still question marks that need answering before a fight can happen. If Benn does manage to escape a ban, then the VADA testing procedure will come under heavy scrutiny.
The absence of a ban could lead to other fighters challenging what was otherwise deemed to be the gold standard for drug testing. And at a time when clean sport is at the top of the agenda, a strong precedent needs to be set.
Therefore, even if Benn were to escape a ban, the British public may not be so forgiving. Time will tell how it all plays out. You can stay up-to-date with the latest happenings in the world of boxing by visiting boxingblitz right here.
